Hiking and Backpacking Let us know what you're interested inan easy to moderate
hike along a rushing mountain creek, a strenuous climb to a spectacular overlook along
the Appalachian Trail, a wildflower walk, or an overnight backpack. There are 900 miles
of trails in the Smokies, and 180 miles of trails in Cherokee National Forest. |
Spelunking The Lost Sea, just 25 minutes from here, is home to the world's second
largest underground lake in a cave. You can enjoy the 1 hour public tour into the
cave which includes a ride in a glass-bottom boat on the underground lake. We highly
recommend you take the Wild Daytime Tour, where you crawl, scoot, slide, and climb
through parts of the cave not included in the public tour. Allow 3 hours for the wild
daytime tour. |

Whitewater Rafting Our area is blessed with spectacular whitewater rivers. We offer
trips on the Nantahala, Hiwassee, and Ocoee Rivers. The Ocoee was the site of the
1996 Olympic whitewater events. The Nantahala and Hiwassee are a bit gentler but still
have plenty of thrills. |

History/Culture A local Cherokee woman will captivate you with stories and songs
from her Indian heritage. A visit to nearby Sequoyah Museum will teach you about the
amazing Cherokee man who created the Cherokee syllabary. Fort Loudon Historic
State Park is just 10 minutes away. |
Bonfires A wilderness adventure would not be complete without a bonfire, roasting hot
dogs, making S'mores, and swapping tall tales. |
Sporting Clays If you're a gun aficionado, or even if you've never tried it before,
there's a sporting clay range in the area with 25 stations nestled in the woods. |

Rappelling A certified instructor will "show you the ropes" at Look Rock on Chilhowee
Mountain.

Biking Bring your own bike and ride the Cherohala Skyway along the crest of the
Unicoi Mountains, with panoramic views of the Smokies and Cherokee National
Forest. Or bike the 11-mile scenic and historic Cades Cove Loop in the Smokies on a
Wednesday or Saturday morning, when the road is closed to vehicular traffic.
